Written and directed by Tommy Lee Wallace (Twilight zone, Fright Night 2) and produced by John Carpenter and Debra Hill (Halloween, Halloween 2) comes the third installment in the legendary Halloween series.Without misguiding the Halloween fans, let it be known, Halloween III (season of the witch) is in no way related to the first two films. Refraining from using the infamous Michael Myers returning home to continue his reign of terror, this film is a completely separate story all together.
Starring the one, the only Tom (thrill me) Atkins (maniac cop, night of the creeps) as doctor Challis is working on a slow night at the local hospital when a incoherent toy salesman is brought in gripping a Halloween mask. After the man is mysteriously found dead, Dr. Challis begins to investigate the strange series of events with Ellie (Stacy Nelkin) the murdered mans distraught daughter.
Tracking the mask back to the maker, a company by the name of silver shamrock novelties (filmed at an actual milk factory), and run by the eerie Clonal Cochran (Dan O'herlihy), the pair are left to stop the production of the masks and prevent an evil plan tokill as many kids as possible.
This film had four different taglines including "...and now the earth will run with blood again", "Witchcraft enters the computer age, and a different terror begins.", "The night no one comes home" and "The Halloween horror continues".
The original writer for the film (Nigel Kneale) asked the producers to take his name off after he saw how violent it was.
This film was shot in 1982 in the small town of Santa Mira, the same town that the original Invasion of the body snatchers was filmed. After Michael died in Halloween II, John Carpenters plan was to release a movie each year, each telling a different Halloween-related story. After this movie failed at the box office, the film-makers decided to bring Michael back to life for future sequels.
Halloween III is a fun movie with a very enjoyable cast, even without resurrecting the usual characters. This film does not hold back and definitely holds it's own. If your looking for a cool eighties horror movie to watch on Halloween this is a must see.
